Some Current Berglund Boat owners ...
California
Blake - I got my Berglund on a trade from a friend. He bought it in New Jersey, 12 years earlier and never put it in the water. It looked ok when I got it, but it was not water worthy. I glassed the bottom it had some rot. I sanded and varnished everything else. Its got a Johnson Javelin which I restored too. I live in Long Beach and it is a blast on the bay. While on the water last weekend, Darrall Sheets from Storage Wars was on the beach with his boat and we talked for 20 minutes. He loved it! Its a great conversation piece!

Larry - My father Raymond Watson bought one of your boats a 16ft, back in the mid 60's. I used to live in Illinois and spent a lot of time on the Kankakee and Illinois rivers. I am very familiar with the Three Rivers Yacht Club and still think of all the great times we had on that beautiful boat. It had a 75 horse Evinrude that was beefed up. I remember you could turn that boat at WOT with no problem. Thanks for the memories.

Edward -Purchased my 1960 16ft. Berglund and Black 2 years ago. This boat had been stored in a garage in Donnelson, IA since 1966. Luckily it was dry and the wood appears to be in excellent shape. The boat just needs a good refinish, just some bubbling of the varnish. I have all the metal parts stripped off and am ready to start the refinishing process. It came with a 1959 Mercury Mark 78A. I hope rebuild that to keep the boat original. It actually started after 45 years!

Jeff - I have a 1959? 16ft Berglund Sportflite? My boat has a 1975 Evinrude 25 hp. outboard on the back. I've had my boat about ten years and only about 5 yrs. ago did I refinish it. It came out pretty nice when I did it but I did not keep up on the maintenance. Now it is starting to look a little bad, but nothing a little stain and varnish won't take care of. I use my boat alot on the weekends I go up north.

Louis - I purchased the boat from my son-in-law. At that time the hull was painted and the boat had been modified for fishing. I decided to restore the boat to the original. This involved removing all the finish, inside and out, and removing the rotted wood. Replaced the transom, aft deck, reset the frames in epoxy, coated the entire inside of the boat with epoxy and then finish coats of varnish. The windshield had been replaced with something from a fiberglass boat so I had a custom windshield built with the original style hardware. Throughout the entire restoration all I had for a guide were the illustrations in "The Real Runabouts" and a trip to Dwight's house to see how a real boat looked.

Sanjay - We purchased the 1958 15' Berglund runabout with a 1958 Johnson Super sea horse 35hp and Holsclaw trailer, last summer (2012). She had a single owner and had been garaged since 1958 except for occasional use. Been in the garage since its last use 25 years ago. We changed the motor although it ran fine. We need to slightly refinish the exterior but other than that she is perfect.

David- I am the caretaker of a 1959, 14' Berglund. The boat is in very good condition. It was purchased in Michigan three years ago. That owner had stored it in a closed garage for overy twenty years. This years plans are to revarnish it. When I purchased it was fitted with a 1962 Evinrude 40hp but had serious reliability problems. Presently, it has a 1999 Evinrude 50hp, while not vintage, the lines of that motor do not detract from the lines of the boat.
The Berglund resides in Northern Ontario, Canada where I live during the summer. Southern California is my home the remainder of the year.

Rick - I bought this boat on a whim in Temagami, Ontario five years ago it is 16ft long and 72" wide it has all its original hardware. I've used it as it is with a 1960 45 Merc motor which is in good shape. It needs a complete strip and finish.

Earl - My Grandfather (Earl H.Whitney) bought this 14' Berglund runabout new in upstate New York around 1960. I learned to ski behind it when I was 8 years old and still enjoy it today with my own family. The boat was my Grandpa's pride and joy, I can still see him polishing or cleaning it even when he was just walking by. My Father (Charles) gave the Berglund to me as a wedding present in 1985. The boat is all original except for some re-do on the varnish and the striping over the years. A 60hp Johnson with power tilt was added in 64' this motor pushes the boat through the water quite nice for a boat that was originally designed with a 35 hp max. rating. In it's 50 years the boat has graced the waters of upstate New York, Dallas Texas, Lake Tahoe and now the lakes of the Great Northwest. No matter what State..
Berglund's are always a crowd pleaser!
